Photo Essay - City of Lights

City of Lights: A Photo Essay by Thomas Grover and Bianca Gandin
Theme: Light
Sub-Theme: Glass

When considering Murray's concept of the shifting everyday aesthetic in day-to-day photography, we thought it prudent to focus on - and bring attention and appreciation to - a fundamental constant which is always present in everyday photography. That constant is light itself, without which no photography would even be possible. The light which pervades the world around us permits the eye to observe our lives unfolding, allowing us to glimpse every moment with our physical eyes or down the lens of a camera. A theme of light by itself was too broad, however, so we then decided on a sub-theme of glass, one of the greatest mediums for viewing light's brilliance in photography through the everyday wonder of reflection. Bianca and I spent a day wandering Sydney's city district on a bright, sunny day in order to properly capture light's modest magnificence.
